Tuesday Six – 4/24/2012

1. Koffin Kats – Choke

Can’t say enough good about the psychobilly trio. I originally had an older tune (V-8 Nightmare) chosen for the Six this week, but a good friend of mine posted this on my Facebook wall, and DAMN is this song kicking my ass. KK is straying a little away from the psychobilly roots, in favor of a sound that is closer to a heavier Bad Religion, and it is rock solid. These guys are not to be missed live, and I cannot wait to see them again tonight at the Red Palace in DC.

2. Baroness – Rays on Pinion

An absolutely beautiful, moving song, from the fantastic Red Album. Made all the more beautiful by the fan-made video seen below.

3. The White Stripes – You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told)

From 2007’s Icky Thump (a brilliant album, IMO), this song hel a lot of meaning for me personally at the time, and you can hear the sincere emotion in Jack White’s voice and lyrics. I am completely in love with the stripped down sound of Icky Thump, and wish the Stripes would make a return.

4. Sepultura – Embrace The Storm

Another band I am seeing live this week. Really looking forward to seeing them with Derrick for the first time. Love the power and the riffs on this one.

5. Dropkick Murphys – Time To Go

This tribute to the Boston Bruins keeps running through my mind as we get closer to Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Quarterfinals between the Bruins and the Capitals. It’s been one hell of a great series, with both teams playing tough, evenly matched hockey. Hoping the Bruins hang on, and advance towards another Stanley Cup!

6. Black Label Society – Fire It Up

Great tune from the Mafia album. BLS keeps it heavy as hell and simple, yet with the trademark blistering solo from Zakk. Mafia is one of my favorites from BLS, some really great tunes on that album.
